Jammu, Dec 13: Police Friday apprehended two hardcore drug peddlers, including a woman, who were habitual drug peddlers involved in possession and transportation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in different NDPS cases in Kathua district.
“In the first instance, a team led by SHO Kathua, under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kathua apprehended one drug peddler Gurnam Singh alias Katta, son of Bui Lal, resident of Chak Drab Khan Kathua, who is involved in different NDPS cases at Police Station Kathua vide FIR No 19/2021 U/S 8/21/22/NDPS ACT; FIR No 233/2021 U/S 8/21/22/NDPS Act; FIR No 146/2023 U/S 8/21/22/NDPS Act and FIR No 11/2024 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act,” a Police spokesperson said.
A detention warrant under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances PIT-NDPS Act- 1988 was issued against him by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu vide order No 49 of 2024 dated December 9, 2024.
In order to prevent the illegal activities in drug trafficking in the district, a dossier was prepared against the accused person and sent to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu for his detention under PITNDPS Act- 1988 (PSA).
“Accordingly, the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu issued a detention warrant against him under the PITNDPS Act. The warrant has been executed and he has been lodged in Central Kot-Bhalwal Jail Jammu to curtail his activities in drug peddling so that the future of the youth of the district could be saved from the clutches of drug peddlers,” spokesperson said.
“In the second instance, a team led by SHO Rajbagh assisted by IC Police Post Marheen apprehended one woman drug peddler, who too was a habitual smuggler namely Asha Bibi, wife of Mohd Sadiq, resident of Khanpur, tehsil Marheen, district Kathua. She is involved in different NDPS cases at Police Station Rajbagh vide FIR No 294/2023 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS and FIR No 104/2024 U/S 8/21/22/ NDPS,” the spokesperson said.
A detention warrant under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances PIT-NDPS Act-1988 was also issued against her by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.
A dossier was prepared against the accused woman and sent to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu for her detention under PITNDPS Act- 1988 (PSA).
“Accordingly, the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu issued a detention warrant against her under the PITNDPS Act. The warrant has been executed and she has also been lodged in Central Kot-Bhalwal Jail Jammu,” the spokesperson said.
