An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in the Akhal forest area of Devsar in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday, officials said.
A top police official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint team of police, Army, and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area following specific inputs about the presence of militants.

Google says reviewing CCI orders over alleged AdTech market dominance
Google on Sunday said it is reviewing the Competition Commission of India (CCI) orders into its conduct in the online display advertising market.
The trade regulator ordered a thorough probe over a complaint filed by the Alliance of Digital India Foundation (ADIF). The CCI said it has decided to club the complaint with ongoing investigations in similar cases and directed the Director General (DG) to carry out a consolidated probe into Google’s conduct in the AdTech ecosystem.
Red Crescent worker killed in attack on Gaza headquarters
he Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has reported that its headquarters in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, was struck in an overnight attack, resulting in the death of one of its workers and injuries to three others. The strike reportedly caused a fire within the facility, which sustained significant damage.
The humanitarian agency, which operates widely across Gaza, claimed that the attack was deliberate, citing that the building is well-marked with Red Crescent insignia and that its coordinates are known to Israeli forces.

Pakal Dul Hydroelectric Project in Kishtwar on track for timely completion
The 1,000-megawatt Pakal Dul Hydroelectric Project in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district is steadily moving toward completion and remains on schedule, according to official sources.
Initiated in 2018, the project is being constructed on the Marusudar River, a tributary of the Chenab, and is slated for commissioning in 2026. As of May 2025, approximately 66 percent of the work has been completed.
Ancient Hindu idols recovered during excavation in J-K’s Anantnag district
Ancient Hindu idols, including ‘Shivlings’, were recovered during excavation work for the renovation of a spring in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Saturday.
The idols were recovered at Karkoot Nag in the Salia area of Aishmuqam in the south Kashmir district, the officials said.
Former Commissioner Secretary G A Peer passes away
Former Commissioner Secretary and a respected resident of Seer Hamdan, Anantnag G. A. Peer (IAS), passed away in Srinagar after a brief illness.
Details available with news agency Kashmir News Corner (KNC) stated that Peer Saheb had been unwell for some time and breathed his last on Sunday.
