Srinagar, Nov 08: A war of words broke out in the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly between NC lawmakers and PDP MLA Waheed Para after the latter blamed NC’s Nazir Gurezi of using a derogatory word for banned Jamat-e-Islami (JeI).
The verbal brawl broke out after Para accused the Gurezi of calling JeI a party of traitors. This triggered an angry reaction from the NC members including Gurezi who denied having made such a remark.
He asked the Speaker to take action against him if he had used such a remark. “I said that the Government of India used the JeI against us. He asked the speaker to check his speech and if there was such a thing then you are free to take action against me. Otherwise, I will bring a privilege motion against the PDP MLA,” Gurezi said.
Earlier, Para said that they felt no shame in admitting that people had voted for NC. “We have seen mothers of militants voting for NC. We won’t hesitate to accept that,” he added.
“The onus of acceptance and tolerance lies on Majority. Omar Abdullah is the head of the family. Future can’t be governed by the mistakes made in the past,” he said.
