Following heavy rainfall in Gobichettipalayam taluk, which led to flooding at the Kodiveri anicut, authorities banned tourists from bathing at the waterfall, on Saturday (April 5, 2025).

Several areas in the district received moderate rainfall, while a few experienced heavy downpours during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. This resulted in a significant inflow of water into the Bhavani River, which flows through Sathyamangalam and Gobichettipalayam taluks. The anicut received a large volume of water, prompting the Public Works Department to impose a ban on bathing in the waters as a safety precaution.

Officials reported that about 800 cusecs of water were being discharged from the anicut, which is built across the river. They added that with heavy rain predicted during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, the ban would either be continued or lifted based on the water flow.

Meanwhile, flooding was reported in a stream carrying seepage from the Lower Bhavani Project canal at Nagadevampalayam village in Gobichettipalayam block, leading to the inundation of 15 houses. Revenue and Water Resources Department officials rescued the affected residents, inspected the stream, and carried out restoration work. Once the water receded, the residents returned to their homes.

The district received a total rainfall of 762.10 mm, with Gobichettipalayam recording 155.20 mm. The rainfall recorded in other places were: Elandakuttai Medu 100.40 mm, Kavundapadi 91.40 mm, Nambiyur 79 mm, Kodiveri Dam 52.20 mm, Varattupallam Dam 51.20 mm, Ammapettai 50.60 mm, Bhavanisagar Dam 39.40 mm, Chennimalai 39 mm, Gunderipallam Dam 29.40 mm, Sathyamangalam 23 mm, and Bhavani 19 mm.
