Tarigami asks Lieutenant Governor to present ‘report card’ of last 5 years of his administration

Srinagar, Nov 8: CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Muhammad Yousuf Tarigam Friday asked the Lieutenant Governor to present his administration’s “report card of the last five years”.

In his response to the Motion of Thanks to the LG’s address, Tarigami said, “The LG repeats in his address ‘my government’ that means LG’s government. So let him present the report card of five years. How many people visited the secretariat during these years?”

He said that the mainstream media including top newspapers of the region were dictated on what size of LG’s photo should be on the front page.

Tarigami said, while LG keeps talking about employment, can he answer how many people he terminated in these years?

“The people of Kashmir remained completely suppressed during the last five years,” Tarigami said.

He said that the journalists who were doing their job professionally were put behind the bars and urged the government to work on getting them released.

Tarigami said that the verification of youth had become a challenge as they were denied verification as their distant relatives had some cases registered against them in the past.

“Even if any distant relative has a case registered with the Police, the youth bear the brunt of it for none of their fault,” he said.

Tarigami said that the education and the health sector were crumbling in J&K while the indicators of these sectors were good during the past.

“The government during the last few years made a practice that the entire focus was shifted on celebrating days of different personalities while other Diwas were also celebrated in schools and academics took a back seat,” he said. “Even it was also observed that during the visit of any VVIP to Kashmir, youth were put behind bars and labeled as a threat to security. Why were the youth arrested? Nobody has got the answers till date.”
