Sunjay Kapur Rs 30,000 cr inheritence case: Karisma Kapoor’s children call Priya Sachdev ‘acute gambler,’ likens her to ‘Cinderella’s stepmother’ | 5 key points | Bollywood News

The controversy surrounding late entrepreneur Sunjay Kapur’s properties appears far from over, and if anything, it is only heating up further as the legal battle over the ownership of his assets, reportedly worth Rs 30,000 crore, has taken a fresh turn. In a recent development, Samaira and Kiaan Raj, Sunjay’s children from his marriage to Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor, made new observations during the hearing of their plea challenging their father’s purported will in the Delhi High Court.

On Tuesday, they told the HC that Sunjay could not have drafted his purported will, as a “feminine pronoun” has been used in it to describe himself at four places. According to news agency PTI, the counsel representing the children argued that there was a fundamental question regarding whether the will in question was signed by Sunjay Kapur or by a woman in the declaration clause.

In recent days, Samaira and Kiaan Raj have levelled several allegations against Priya Sachdev Kapur, the entrepreneur’s wife at the time of his death, including the claim that she is an “acute gambler.”

Here are 5 important points pertaining to Sunjay Kapur inheritence case:

  1. 01

‘Priya Sachdev is an acute gambler’

Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for Karisma Kapoor’s children, referred to Priya Sachdev Kapur as “an acute gambler” while questioning the authenticity of Sunjay’s will. According to News18, he stated in the Delhi High Court, “The lady is an acute gambler; good luck to her.”

  2. 02

    ‘Cinderella’s stepmother’

Last week, Samaira and Kiaan accused Priya of being “greedy” and described her as “Cinderella’s stepmother.” For the uninitiated, in the fairytale Cinderella, the central character is mistreated by her stepmother, who devotes all her attention to her own two daughters.

  3. 03

    Misspelt name of Priya’s son

During the hearing on Monday, the lawyer appearing for Karisma’s children pointed out that the will misspelt the name of Sunjay and Priya’s six-year-old son, Azarias, at not one but “five places”. The lawyer also stated that the residential addresses of Samaira and Kiaan given in the will are incorrect.

  4. 04

‘Priya got 60 per cent of assets’

Advocate Jethmalani had on October 9 claimed that Priya received 60 per cent of Sunjay Kapur’s assets and approximately 12 per cent to her son. “She got 60 per cent of the assets and allotted 12 per cent to her son. She is also getting 75 per cent of the trust… She is only concerned with her personal assets,” NDTV quoted Jethmalani as arguing in court.

  5. 05

What did Karisma Kapoor’s children get?

Earlier last month, Priya Sachdev claimed in the Delhi High Court that Rs 1,900 crore had already been transferred to Karisma’s children. Senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for her, told the HC, “For all this crying and weeping that is going on, the plaintiffs received Rs 1,900 crore from the trust.” Priya was referring to the Rani Kapur Trust, which is the Kapur family’s trust. “What more do they want? It’s not as if these people are left on the streets,” he pointed out.

Sources, however, revealed that control of these assets remains with Priya Kapur in the RK Trust, where she holds 75 per cent control, and that the children have no access to the Rs 1,900 crore inheritance.

Sunjay inherited his father’s company, Sona Comstar, and successfully transformed it into a global competitor. At the time of his passing, his net worth was estimated to be approximately Rs 30,000 crore. According to the will, Priya has been granted full control of his entire estate, mentioning that she can distribute it or not, under her own discretion.

Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor tied the knot in 2003. They became parents to Samaira in 2005 and Kiaan in 2011. The couple parted ways a decade later, and their divorce was finalised in 2016. Sunjay married Priya Sachdev in 2017, and they remained together until his demise in June this year.
