Uri, Dec 16: The Jal Shakti Department on Monday asked residents of the main town Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district to store potable water in the morning hours.
In a communique issued by the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Jal Shakti Department (PHE) Uri, it reads, “General public of Uri town through the medium of this notice are hereby informed that due to execution of flood protection works on Nambla nalla upstream of source for WSS Uri town, the drinking water gets high turbidity during the day time hours up to late evening.”
“People are as such advised to store potable water during the morning hours which will be supplied as per the rationalisation in the morning. The said notice will be applicable till the protection work gets completed on the nalla,” the order further reads, a copy of which is with Greater Kashmir.
It is important to mention that locals of Uri town raised an outcry on social media on Sunday, complaining about receiving contaminated drinking water through their taps. One local even uploaded a video showing the unsafe water supply at their home. In response, the Jal Shakti Department Uri swung into action and issued a statement.
