Jammu, Nov 8: The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi Friday asked the senior military leadership to “stay well-informed about global geopolitical developments” so as to remain in ready-mode to “counter evolving threats from adversaries.”
He stated this during his visit to the Headquarters of Western Command at Chandimandir where he reviewed the operational preparedness of the Command. During his visit, Gen Dwivedi also reviewed the security situation and readiness of troops in the forward operational areas in the Kathua-Pathankot. Samba, Kathua districts and parts of Jammu district come under Western Command.
The Army Chief commended the professionalism of troops and the recent success in counter-terrorism operations in the region. PRO Defence Jammu, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said that during his visit, General Dwivedi was briefed by the Army Commander of Western Command, Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, on various key operational, training, logistical and administrative aspects critical to the Command’s effectiveness.
“The Army Commander Lt Gen Katiyar highlighted ongoing force modernisation initiatives and strategic reforms in the operational theatre aimed at enhancing combat readiness. He also provided insights into the administrative and logistical improvements being made to support the Command’s operational objectives,” Lt Col Bartwal said.
Expressing his appreciation for the efforts of Western Command, General Dwivedi emphasised the importance of integrating advanced technologies to ensure faster and more effective operational capabilities. “He further encouraged the senior military leadership to stay well-informed about global geopolitical developments, reinforcing the need to continuously strengthen the Indian Army’s readiness to counter evolving threats from adversaries,” PRO Defence, Jammu stated. As part of his visit, General Dwivedi also toured the forward operational areas in the Kathua-Pathankot region, where he was briefed by the GOC of Yol-based Rising Star Corps on the prevailing security situation and the operational readiness of the troops stationed there.
“Army Chief commended the personnel of Rising Star Corps for their professionalism and the recent success in counter-terrorism operations in the region, recognising their exemplary performance in ensuring the safety and security of the area,” Lt Col Bartwal said, adding that Gen Dwivedi’s visit underscored the Indian Army’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of operational preparedness, modernising forces and fostering a strategic environment for effective defence operations.
Earlier, the Army, in a post on ‘X’ stated that Gen Dwivedi, during his visit, was briefed on the operational, training, logistics and administrative aspects by GOC-in-Chief Western Command.
“The COAS also interacted with Formation Commanders and discussed wide ranging issues on the current security scenario along the Western Front. Gen Dwivedi emphasised the need for technological absorption in all fields and contribution towards nation building across all domains,” Army said, adding, “He (Gen Dwivedi) complimented the Formation for its professionalism and commitment towards duty.”
