Ramban/ Jammu, Oct 6: Despite intermittent light rain on Monday, the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) remained open for one-way traffic, allowing heavy vehicles towards Kashmir and Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) towards Jammu, traffic officials said.
However, the vehicular movement remained slow due to several factors, including a single lane road at Tharad Balli Nallah in Udhampur, single-lane stretches between Nashri-Dalwass and Marog-Kishtwari Pather, breakdowns of several heavy vehicles, and on-foot movement of nomadic families with livestock migrating towards Jammu.
The problem-prone Tharad stretch in Udhampur also remained open, easing concerns over possible disruptions.
Despite light rainfall across the Udhampur-Banihal sector, hundreds of vehicles successfully crossed the highway toward their respective destinations.
With the Meteorological Department forecasting more rain in the coming days, traffic authorities urged commuters to confirm the latest road status before starting their journey.
Authorities advised travellers and vehicle operators to contact the Traffic Control Units (TCUs) in Srinagar, Ramban, Udhampur, and Jammu or check official updates on the J&K Traffic Police’s ‘X’ and Facebook pages, especially on Tuesday morning.
