Ramban, Jan 16: Due to a fresh spell of snow and rain and subsequent slippery road conditions, vehicular traffic movement was disrupted for some time on both sides of Banihal-Qazigund tunnel and old alignment road leading and passing through Jawahar tunnel and Patnitop on Thursday.
However traffic authorities said there was slow movement observed on NH-44 due to breakdown of HMVs, single lane traffic at Dalwas, Mehad and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, and due to snowfall across the Banihal-Qaziqund tunnel.
Senior Superintendent of traffic police National Highway Ramban Rohit Baskotra said following a fresh spell of snow and slippery on old alignment road leading to Jawahar Tunnel and Banihal–Qaziqund sectors and rain on the Udhampur –Banihal sector and due to breakdown of a vehicle, traffic was disrupted on few occasions for brief periods during the day on Thursday.
He said concerned road maintenance agencies BRO responsible for upkeeping of old alignment road leading to JT cleared the accumulated snow and sprayed urea to remove the forest. snow immediately.
All oil, lubricants and gas tankers carrying essential supplies for valley Kashmir are passing through this old alignment road of Patnitop and Jawahar tunnel as loaded oil and gas tankers are not being allowed to cross Chenani –Nashri tunnel and Banihal-Qaziqund tunnel on Srinagar Jammu National Highway.
SSP Rohit Baskotra advised commuters drive with caution due prevailing inclement weather and avoids over speeding and always chose lane driving while travelling on National Highway and other link roads.
Meanwhile traffic department issued a fresh advisory for Friday stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions light, medium and heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on either sides of National Highway.
They further advised undertake journeys on highways only after confirming the status of roads from TCU, Srinagar Jammu Udhampur, and Ramban on Friday morning, they added.
They further advised light passenger vehicle operators not to undertake journeys during night hours due to apprehensions of shooting stones espacially between Ramban and Banihal sectors of NH-44. They advised commuters prefer journeys on this sector during day time only.
