SKUAST-K Faculty of Fisheries adopts modern curriculum under NEP

Ganderbal, Aug 20: The 12th meeting of the Faculty of Fisheries at SKUAST-K Rangil focused on major curriculum reforms and academic enhancements. Chaired by Prof. Farooz A. Bhat, Dean of Fisheries, the session emphasised aligning degree programmes with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2024.

The meeting saw participation from senior officers of SKUAST-K, including directors and deans of Forestry, Horticulture, FVSc & AH, along with professors, heads of divisions, and university-nominated members. Discussions centred on the adoption of the 6th Dean’s Committee report of ICAR, which introduced curriculum revisions, skill enhancement courses, flexible course selection, academic banking, and mandatory industry-oriented internships.

New-age subjects such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and machine learning were incorporated to prepare students for careers in the digital era. The faculty approved several recommendations to strengthen academic programmes and enhance practical exposure for students.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Adnan Abubakr, Head of the Division of Aquatic Environmental Management, marking a significant step toward modernising fisheries education at SKUAST-K.
