Severe power crisis hits Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi; 50 hours without electricity

Rajouri, Aug 31: Several areas of Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi and adjoining parts are reeling under a severe power crisis, with electricity remaining snapped for the last 50 hours as the Transmission Division (TD-4th) carries out repairs of a damaged tower near Jagti, sources said.

According to earlier assurances by the power department, electricity was to be fully restored by 6 PM on Saturday. Later, it was informed that one circuit out of two (50% restoration) would be functional by 11 PM the same day. However, the assurances fell flat, with no restoration taking place even after 50 hours.

Many vital health institutions in the affected areas remained in complete darkness last night due to the unavailability of adequate power backup systems.

Meanwhile, there has been no response from the Transmission Division, further deepening the crisis. Even field functionaries of the power department are reported to be uncertain and unable to respond to public queries and concerns.
