Banihal, Feb 19: A massive fire broke out in the Chamalwas area of Banihal, completely reducing seven residential houses to ashes and causing property damage worth lakhs of rupees.
The fire erupted around midnight in Sayed Pora hamlet of Chamalwas, Ramban district, and quickly spread across the area.
As soon as the news spread, Banihal Police, fire services, and volunteers from NGO Banihal Volunteers rushed to the spot. With the help of local residents, they worked tirelessly to control the flames and prevented the fire from engulfing more houses.
The families affected by the fire, all belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category, have been identified as Mohammad Yousaf Shah, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Gulzar Ahmed Shah, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, Shabir Ahmed Shah, Jamat Ali Shah, and Ghulam Nabi Shah.
All are residents of Sayed Pora, Chamalwas, Banihal.
