Model Rohman Shawl, who once dated Sushmita Sen, may no longer be romantically involved with her, but the bond they share has clearly transcended conventional definitions. On July 28, Rohman marked their seventh anniversary with a deeply emotional tribute on Instagram–celebrating their journey not as lovers, but as something more rare.
Sharing a beautiful photo of the two, he captioned the post with a heartfelt message: “Some stories outgrow their titles, but never their meaning! I taught you chess, you now beat me without mercy. You taught me to swim—dragged a water-phobic soul into the deep end (emotionally and literally). And how can I not thank you for giving me the best haircuts?”
He went on to reflect on the evolution of their relationship: “We swapped roles, fears, and strengths, and somewhere between checkmates and deep ends, we found a bond that outlived labels. Not lovers, not strangers, something softer, rarer! You were once my safe place & somehow, still are! Grateful for the love we had & the quiet friendship that stayed. @sushmitasen47.” The post was accompanied by the hashtag, Happy Anniversary.
The touching note melted hearts online, with many followers praising his emotional maturity. One user wrote, “What an outstanding caption.” Another commented, “Eternal love story… a strong lady and a charming man. She is awesome.”
Rohman and Sushmita confirmed their breakup in 2021, with Sushmita writing on Instagram, “We began as friends, we remain friends. The relationship was long over…the love remains!”
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Sushmita once elaborated on the grace with which she moves through relationships. “I’m a 100% person. When I’m in love, I’m all in. So when we leave, we must do that 100% too. The truth is incredible—it allows people to remain friends. The world needs that love. There’s enough chaos already.”
Only a week ago, Rohman shared his inability to afford the kind of diamond Sushmita loves. “The kind of diamond she likes, I can’t afford it yet. She has a favourite—22 carats. I’ll take time to earn that. But God willing, I’ll buy it someday,” he said.

Despite going their separate ways, Rohman has remained close to Sushmita and her family. He has been seen by her side at several public events and was even with her during her heart attack in 2023.
