Jammu, Jan 5: Light to moderate rains lashed the plains of almost the entire Jammu region, leading to a fall in day temperature on Sunday.
Isolated places, however, witnessed heavy rains as higher reaches experienced fresh snowfall.
As per weather predictions for thundershowers in plains and snowfall in hilly areas by the Meteorology department on January 5 and 6, widespread rains lashed the Jammu region on Sunday.
Though cloudy conditions prevailed throughout the day yet evening witnessed showers with thunderstorms in Jammu City and adjoining areas.
“This spell of light to moderate rains was widespread covering the entire Jammu region under the influence of Western Disturbances as predicted earlier. However, this spell will continue till tomorrow morning. By afternoon, the sky will be clear,” Chief Scientist and In-charge Agrometeorology, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu (SKUAST-J), Mahender Singh told Greater Kashmir.
“From Tuesday onwards foggy conditions will prevail for the next three days or so. Another wet spell, preceded by cloudy conditions, is in the offing by the weekend,” he said.
“Day temperature has plunged following today’s rains, however, minimum temperature has slightly gone up. Today as per our Chatha observatory, Jammu recorded a maximum temperature of 19.4 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was 7.5 degrees Celsius,” Singh said.
