NEW DELHI: A group of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers from the 2023 batch, currently serving as Assistant Secretaries in various Union Ministries and Departments, called on President of India Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre on Tuesday.
Addressing the young officers, President Murmu lauded their determination and hard work in joining the civil services and reminded them of their potential to bring transformative change in the lives of citizens—especially in their very first postings.
“The development and public welfare work done by you at the local and state levels will contribute meaningfully to achieving national goals,” she said, emphasizing the importance of grassroots service and staying connected with the communities they serve.
The President urged the officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity, honesty, and simplicity, describing honesty as the most desirable policy in public service. She warned against the lure of superficial popularity, noting that a civil servant’s true legacy is built through impactful work, not social media following.
In the context of rising public expectations in the digital age, President Murmu stressed the need for transparency, accountability, and close engagement with the people. She encouraged the officers to actively involve citizens and their elected representatives in solving local issues.
Highlighting the challenges posed by climate change and declining moral values, the President called on the officers to be examples of ethical conduct and sensitivity in every sphere of their professional and personal lives.
President Murmu also advised the officers to revisit their places of posting in the future to witness the long-term outcomes of their contributions to society.
