Srinagar, Dec 8: Police in Handwara in collaboration with the Geology and Mining Department seized two tippers, a tractor, and a JCB.
A statement of J&K Police issued here said that the vehicles bore Registration No JK04B 6128, JK0ZAN 8269, GZUDV344185S3, and HAR3DXSSU01863008 loaded with illegal minerals. It said that legal proceedings against the persons involved in illegal extraction without possessing any lawful authority have been initiated.
“J&K Police and Geology and Mining Department is trying to bust the nexus of mineral mafias in Handwara police district to save natural treasure from illegal prowling,” the statement said.
It said Police are resolutely committed to curbing the scourge of illegal extraction of minerals in Handwara police district to safeguard the environment and prevent ecological damage that poses serious health risks to local residents.
“People are requested to come forward or Dial-112 regarding any information about illegal extraction of minerals. Police warn stringent action as per law against those found involved in such activities,” the statement said.
