Jammu, Feb 21: Police Friday stated to have made recoveries worth staggering Rs 67 lakh, in the form of cash and valuables including jewellery, stolen in different incidents of thefts in Jammu city and outskirts in the recent past.
Police also arrested seven persons in this connection, including a juvenile.
According to SP City North Vivek Shekhar Sharma and SDPO West Jammu, the Police successfully resolved six theft incidents in Sub Division City West with the recovery of stolen items worth Rs 37 lakh and apprehending five accused after tracking.
In a case FIR no 22/2025 registered at Police Station Janipur, a domestic help hired by a jeweller, through a private online recruitment agency taking advantage of his employer’s absence at home, stole jewellery, mobile phones, a laptop, and other personal belongings. Through diligent tracking and investigation, the accused was apprehended and all the stolen items were recovered from his possession.
In another case FIR no 17/2025, registered at Police Station Bakshi Nagar, Police recovered 175 grams of gold, Rs 2 lakh cash and one toka (sharp-edged weapon) from the accused. The recovered items worth Rs 20 lakh were restored to the owner through court.
In a separate case, an accused Dheeraj Singh, a notorious thief who had 25 FIRs against him registered at different police stations earlier, was arrested for stealing a bike while in case FIR Nos 3/2025 and 10/2025, Police apprehended three accused viz., Sadam Hussain, Zia Farooq and Sahil Imtiaz.
Stolen mobile phones, gold items, two scooties and one electric auto rickshaw were recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile SP South Ajay Sharma too stated that the Police solved a burglary case in Nanak Nagar in less than 60 hours with the recovery of stolen valuables i.e., jewellery and two expensive watches, worth Rs 25 lakhs and arrest of two accused, including a juvenile.
“In a sensational theft case FIR No 41/2025 U/s 331(3)/305 BNS registered at Police Station Gandhinagar, the Police apprehended two accused and recovered 28 tolas of gold jewellery and two branded watches from the possession of the accused. Through investigation based on human and technical intelligence besides CCTV camera footage, the case was cracked,” SP South said.
According to him, one of the apprehended accused turned out to be a Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) while another accused was identified as Rajesh Raina of Nanak Nagar, Jammu.
The recovery was made from the residence of CCL at Preet Nagar, Digiana Jammu. “The questioning of CCL is going on and more recoveries at this stage can’t be ruled out,” SP South said.
