India’s 79th Independence Day 2025 Live Updates: As India prepares to mark its 79th Independence Day on Friday (15th August, 2025), President Droupadi Murmu will address the nation this evening (August 14, 2025) on the eve of the celebrations. The address will be broadcast at 7 pm in English and Hindi on Doordarshan, followed by regional language versions on broadcasters regional channels. Akashvani too will air the regional language versions at 9:30 pm.
Independence Day celebrations: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday will lead the celebrations from the Red Fort in Delhi, where he will unfurl the National Flag and deliver his address to the nation. He will be accompanied by Flying Officer Rashika Sharma, and the flag hoisting will be synchronised with a 21-Gun Salute by the 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial). Approximately 5,000 Special Guests have been invited to witness the celebrations at Red Fort this year.

‘Naya Bharat’: One of the key highlights this year is the celebration of Operation Sindoor’s success. The View cutter at Gyanpath will have the Operation Sindoor logo, and floral decorations will follow the same theme. Invitation cards carry both the Operation Sindoor logo and a watermark of the Chenab Bridge, depicting the rise of ‘Naya Bharat’, which is the theme for this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
