India underscored its commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday. In their talks, the leaders stressed the need for stability and continuity in bilateral ties amid a shifting global environment.
At the meeting, PM Modi told Putin that India has always supported dialogue and efforts aimed at ending conflict. He said, “India is not neutral, India is on the side of peace,” while referring to the war in Ukraine. Modi added that nations “should all pursue peace together” and that India “supports every effort towards peace.”
Putin responded by appreciating India’s consistent engagement on the issue. He said, “We are working on a peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict,” and thanked Modi for India’s “attention to Ukraine peace efforts.” The Russian president said Moscow wanted to “move forward” in its ties with New Delhi, noting that the bilateral partnership should “grow and touch new heights.”
The exchange comes at a time when global powers are reassessing diplomatic alignments and supply chains. For India, the talks reinforced its long-standing position of advocating dialogue while maintaining strategic relations with key partners.
