Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, is set to visit Brussels, Belgium, on 27–28 October 2025 for high-level discussions with Maroš Šefčovič, Executive Vice-President and European Commissioner for Trade of the European Union (EU).
The visit comes at a critical juncture in the ongoing India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, with both sides striving to conclude a comprehensive, balanced, and mutually beneficial trade deal at the earliest. It builds on momentum from the 14th round of negotiations held earlier this month.
Highlights of the event
During his visit, Minister Goyal is expected to discuss key aspects of the proposed FTA, including market access, non-tariff measures, and regulatory cooperation, as well as review progress and identify areas requiring further alignment.
His schedule includes a bilateral meeting with Commissioner Šefčovič followed by a working dinner, where both leaders are likely to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the India–EU trade and economic partnership.
The visit follows renewed strategic engagement between India and the EU, highlighted by a meeting earlier this year between Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and European Commission President H.E. Ursula von der Leyen, who emphasised the importance of a future-ready trade relationship promoting prosperity, sustainability, and innovation.
Minister Goyal’s trip underscores India’s commitment to deepening economic ties with the EU — one of its largest trading partners — and advancing a trade agreement that supports resilient supply chains, sustainable growth, and a rules-based global trading system.
