Jammu, Feb 11: Thieves Tuesday struck the famous Pir Mitha Dargah (shrine) of Jammu city and looted its donation box during the intervening night of February 10 and 11.
One of the locals and a devotee Ram Lubhaya, while speaking to media persons, stated, “The incident came to the fore when Rashid Sahib, one of the persons, who manages this shrine, reached here in the morning at 5 am and found the doors open and locks broken. Donation box too was vandalised and money was looted.”
“We suspect that this theft incident could be the handiwork of drug peddlers as some of them used to sit behind the shrine. Jammu city and its outskirts in the recent past have witnessed a lot of theft incidents including looting incidents in the nearby Hanumanji temple; Jogi Gate cremation ground premises, Sainik Colony and Greater Kailash. This is a worrisome development,” he said.
“We request the SHO concerned here to arrange regular Police patrolling around the shrine to contain the activities of drug peddlers and theft incidents,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Police registered a case in this connection and initiated an investigation.
