Jammu, Oct 23: The members of All J&K PHE Employees United Front (PHEEUF) Jammu province Thursday held a protest demonstration at Jal Shakti (PHE) office in the winter capital city, seeking regularisation and the implementation of Minimum Wages Act.
Agitating daily wagers demanded that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should table the report of the committee, constituted to examine issues related to their regularisation, in the J&K Legislature, the autumn session of which commenced in Srinagar on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
Front leader Ravi Hans, while speaking to the media persons, threatened to launch an aggressive protest on October 27 if the report was not tabled in the House.
“We have been protesting for a long time to seek justice. Earlier this year, the government-led by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had promised to address our issue and a committee was constituted to look into our regularisation and other issues, within a time frame of six months. That time line has lapsed yet the government has still not released the report,” Hans said.
“We have been suffering and that is why we have launched this protest to ensure that our voice is heard. We seek justice. We want the government and the Chief Minister to fulfill his promise at the earliest and also release our pending wages,” he said, amid slogans.
On October 16, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, during the press conference, at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan in National Conference office, Jammu which marked the completion of one-year of his government in office, had stated that the report of the committee-headed by the Chief Secretary, constituted for regularisation of the daily wagers, was almost prepared by him (Chief Secretary).
“After giving final touches, once he submits it (report) to us (cabinet), it will be tabled in the House,” he had said.
Six-member committee led by the Chief Secretary was constituted by the government on March 11, 2025.
An announcement to constitute the committee to chalk out a road map for regularisation of daily wagers, ad hoc and casual employees, to meet another poll promise made in his party manifesto, was made by the Chief Minister in the Legislative Assembly during the budget session.
