Oppo launches Find X9, Find X9 Pro in China with redesigned camera island and ColorOS 16 | Technology News

Oppo officially launched the Find X9 and Find X9 Pro on Thursday, October 16, in China with the India launch of the flagship smartphones reportedly scheduled next month.

Both devices run ColorOS 16, Oppo’s latest version of its mobile operating system that is based on Android 16. Improving on its parallel animation feature, ColorOS 16 offers seamless animation that allows “next-level fluidity” when opening and closing apps from the Home Screen, App Drawer, or Global Search, as well as when switching between apps with gestures or navigating through multiple widgets, the BBK Electronics-owned company said in a press note.

However, one of the biggest changes in the Find X9 series is the design. Oppo has ditched the circular camera island on the rear for a squircle-shaped camera module in the top-left corner.

“It is a conscious call that was taken by Oppo engineers to make it more visually appealing and give it a practical as well as premium look. The way you hold a device, especially when the camera is in the centre, you tend to smudge the lens with your fingers. With this device, that is not going to happen,” Priyanka Madaan, manager, brand and PR, Oppo India, said at a press briefing in New Delhi on Thursday.

For context, the Oppo Find X8 series launched last year, has a circular camera island on the rear with visible Hasselblad branding along with an alert slider. The newly unveiled Find X9 series features a snap key that can be used to trigger AI Mind Space, an AI feature available in OnePlus and Oppo devices that automatically summarises screenshots and integrates them with notes accessible through global search.

Both devices are dust and water resistant as they are IP68 and IP69-rated. While the Find X9 base model is available in Titanium Grey and Space Black, the high-end Find X9 Pro will come in Silk White and Titanium Charcoal. Earlier this month, Oppo revealed that it has partnered with chipmaker MediaTek to become one of the first OEMs to use the flagship Dimensity 9500 series in the Find X9 series.

Camera specs

The Find X9 series features a Hasselblad-tuned rear camera system. The base model features a quad camera set-up comprising a 50-megapixel main camera, 50-megapixel periscope camera, 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a true colour camera that offers more accurate colours by dividing them up into channels. The X9 also has a 32-megapixel front camera with support for up to 60 fps Dolby Vision and 4K Motion Photo.

Oppo is also making the 50-megapixel camera as the default for the first time. The Lumo Imaging Engine will process these pictures at the same time to lower latency. It also has a new Master Mode for expert photographers, along with the Hasselblad Portrait Mode and XPan.

Meanwhile, the X9 Pro includes a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with a 70mm focal length and comes bundled with a Hasselblad Professional Photography Kit. Customers also have the option to purchase a tele-converter to bump up zoom ratios to 10x optical zoom and 50x video zoom. Positioning it as the “ultimate concert phone, Oppo said that the Find X9 Pro delivers up to 13.2x lossless zoom with support for 4K 120fps Dolby Vision on the main and telephoto camera lenses.

ColorOS 16 brings a new AI-editing feature called AI Portrait Glow which is designed to improve portraits taken in poor lighting by optimising skin tones and balancing light with a single tap. This is in addition to Oppo’s suite of AI-powered photo-editing tools such as AI Eraser, AI Unblur, and AI Reflection Remover.
