On Ambedkar day, Congress leaders call for strengthening constitution

Suchetgarh, Apr 14: On the birth anniversary of the father of the Indian Constitution, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra Monday cautioned the people against attempts to weaken the constitution by the Central government and said it was time to fight to safeguard the constitution and constitutional values in the country.

Addressing a party gathering at Suchetgarh, Karra lashed out at the BJP and the central government for “weakening the constitution and its soul every day in multiple ways”.

Karra elaborated on the pressing challenges that confront these core values, noting that various forces were currently at work, actively undermining and attacking the principles of equality and justice that had been painstakingly established throughout India’s history.

He expressed concern that these efforts threaten to weaken the very foundation of the Constitution, which was designed to protect and promote the rights of all citizens, irrespective of their background.

In light of these challenges, Karra urged the people to rise to the occasion and take proactive measures to defend the Constitution and uphold the democratic institutions that underpin the nation.

AICC General Secretary and Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir conveyed a call to action, emphasising that it was the responsibility of every citizen to protect the democratic framework and the rights it guarantees, thereby ensuring that the vision and values laid out by Ambedkar continue to thrive in Indian society.

He said that Ambedkar’s tireless and selfless dedication to the principles of social justice, equality, and human rights serves as a powerful source of inspiration for present and future generations.

JKPCC Working President Tara Chand Tara Chand said that Ambedkar was not just the father of the Indian Constitution but also the godfather of Dalits and downtrodden, who led the millions of oppressed people to self-respect and dignified life.

He said even after braving the brunt of social stigma and oppression Ambedkar remained committed to fighting against inequality and equal rights of downtrodden and oppressed people in India.

JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla hailed the great contributions of Ambedkar to the nation and said his selfless services were bound to inspire the generations, leading them on the path of social justice and equality which is guaranteed under the Constitution of India.
