Jammu, Apr 17: All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge J&K Affairs and MP Dr Syed Naseer Hussain Thursday asserted that the party was focussing on encouraging and grooming new leadership, out of the grassroots cadre.
He also minced no words in stating that the party would not tolerate groupism, which led to its defeat in the past elections.
“We will have to acknowledge true and loyal leaders irrespective of caste or religion, and maintain discipline to strengthen the party and its top leadership. To achieve that objective, even if we have to sacrifice a few leaders, the party will not hesitate,” he said.
Naseer Hussain was addressing the workers meeting at Afsar Guest House in Shakti Nagar.
Earlier on his arrival in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra and AICC general secretary and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in J&K Legislative Assembly, G A Mir welcomed Naseer Hussain at Jammu airport.
Addressing the gathering, he also said that Congress would fight back against the renewed vendetta politics of BJP against the top Congress leadership due to its (Congress’) renewed efforts to oppose the policies of BJP especially in Gujarat, Bihar and elsewhere.
Naseer Hussain, later in a meeting of senior leaders this evening at Hotel Asia, said that it was time to fight back attempts of BJP and RSS to weaken the democracy and constitution.
“Any assault on the constitution would be opposed along with all like-minded secular forces at every step like the recent amendment on the Wakf Act,” he said. He assured the senior leaders that he was always available to listen to the leadership of all classes. “Congress is a democratic party. Differences of opinion can be there on issues but indiscipline will not be allowed. Congress has to emerge a strong secular voice of people of all sections as Centre is ignoring the promised statehood to J&K,” he said.
Veteran JKPCC leader and former minister Gurmukh Singh was also honoured for his long and selfless service to the party, during the event.
