NEP aims to make youth globally competitive, says L. Murugan

Youth of Tamil Nadu are not ready to accept fake promises of the DMK and they want to be globally competitive. That is what the objective of the National Education Policy (NEP) as well, said Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he said: “This is not 1965 to come to power using language. Youth of this generation want to be globally competitive. Keeping that in mind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought the NEP after having wider consultations with educationists and academicians.”

He also said the NEP stressed the need for learning the mother tongue. With respect to the PM SHRI scheme, Mr. Murugan said, “Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had already clarified that the Centre is ready to provide all-round support and release funds, if all the conditions of a particular scheme are met.”

Responding to a question on the alleged blocking of the website of Tamil media house Vikatan, he said, “Legal action has been taken.”
