Srinagar Nov 7: Peoples Conference (PC) Chairman and MLA Handwara, Sajad Lone Thursday accused the National Conference (NC) of playing a “fixed match” with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Assembly.
Addressing media persons on the sidelines of the ongoing J&K Assembly session, Lone, accompanied by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) MLAs Muhammad Fayaz Mir and Waheed Parra, and MLA Langate Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh said that six MLAs forwarded a resolution to the Speaker but he adjourned the house without giving them a chance to speak on it.
“We have named it the People’s Resolution. In this, we have condemned unconditionally, without tinkering with words, the decision taken by the Government of India on August 5, 2019,” he said.
Lone said he wanted the resolution to be put before the House and voted.
“Our resolution demands that Article 370 and Article 35-A be brought back,” he said.
Lone said that they supported the NC resolution the other day.
“We quickly saw what this special status is, which NC has mentioned in the resolution. But when we read it later, we saw that it was a weak resolution,” Lone said.
He said that the NC should either support them or let them come up with the same resolution and they would support it.
“They should pass this resolution, and we will vote in favour of it. Or they should tell us, what is the difference between this resolution and their resolution,” Lone said.
He said that BJP spokesperson, Amit Malviya had on X hailed the NC for skipping Article 370 in their resolution.
“But he later deleted the tweet,” Lone said.
He said that people had understood that NC came up with a weak resolution, which was a betrayal of the people of Kashmir.
“BJP is making noise from one side of the House and NC is reacting to them from the other side. Have we come here to make noise? Are we 4th standard kids,” Lone asked.
He said a weak resolution had been passed and nobody was allowed to speak.
“These two parties make noise in the House, which indicates that it is a fixed match between them,” Lone said.
He said that the 2024 J&K Assembly was powerless, but in the context of 2019 decisions, it was the most powerful institution.
“It represents the will of the people of J&K,” Lone said.
He said that the 3rd paragraph of the resolution passed by the J&K Assembly was negating the first two paragraphs of the same resolution.
“We don’t want to say who took the vote in the name of Article 370. Leave that, the election is over,” Lone said.
He said that they presented an amendment in the house to the Lieutenant Governor’s address and the unilateral decision taken on August 5, 2019, should be discussed.
“We want the issue of political prisoners to be discussed. Police verification certificates should be discussed,” Lone said.
He said that the moment they put forth the resolution in the house, exactly five minutes after that, the assembly was adjourned.
“And quietly, like the good boys, NC and BJP left the house,” Lone said. “If this is not a fixed match, then what was it,” he said.
Lone said that it was not clear if Congress lawmakers had voted for the resolution or not.
