MLA Bani, MLA Billawar lock horns in LA

Jammu, Mar 10: BJP MLA Satish Kumar Sharma and independent MLA Rameshwar Singh Monday traded barbs in the Legislative Assembly over the visit to the bereaved families from Billawar.

A verbal duel erupted after the MLA Bani Rameshwar was allowed by the Speaker to narrate his heckling incident the day before in Billawar hospital where he had gone to meet the bereaved families.

“I had gone to the hospital. They are my relatives. However, I was assaulted by a few people and told that I would not be allowed to visit Billawar. I know this happened at whose behest… I want a detailed investigation by the Police. Was it a justified act to stop me and assault me?” he asked.

“If that was justified, then what if you too faced the same situation in Kashmir? If you go to Kashmir and are assaulted there, will it be ok,” he asked BJP legislators and added, “Earlier when I used to raise security related issues, deteriorating situation, harassment of locals by Police, they (BJP) would brand me as a traitor. Now they themselves are raking up the same issues.”

He requested the Chair to order a time-bound inquiry into the ‘assault incident’ and stringent action.

Responding to his tirade. BJP MLA from Billawar, Satish Kumar Sharma accused him of playing politics on this issue.

“If they were your relatives, why did you not go to attend the cremation of the deceased today? I just came after attending the cremation. You had gone there to play politics. This is all for TRP. That’s why people were angry with you. As far as the Kashmir threat is concerned, we will face it. Don’t scare us,” Sharma said.

Amid din by ruling combine and Bani MLA, he added, “We don’t want to create hatred and play politics on this issue.”
