Jammu, Nov 18: Police and hospital administration Tuesday, as a part of an intensified drive -initiated post Delhi blast across J&K, inspected the lockers of medicos and staff in the premier medical institutions of Jammu.
Inspection of lockers allotted to the doctors, students and staff in the hospital was conducted at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital Jammu and the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital Jammu.
However, the hospital authorities stated that the lockers were being checked as a routine exercise. This is a part of measures to check unidentified and unclaimed lockers.
SMGS Superintendent Dr Dara Singh, while speaking to media persons, said, “The lockers were checked in a routine manner. We were already conducting this exercise but it was intensified after the Delhi blast. Today, we broke the lock of an almirah in the presence of security. We have formed a committee of four members for this drive.”
Principal GMC Jammu Prof (Dr) Ashutosh Gupta too described it as normal exercise. “As a part of routine exercise, checking was conducted. Keys of lockers were handed over by the (locker) owners. After inspection, re-allotment is being made. We have maintained a logbook of the lockers,” he said.
On November 8, during a search operation, arms and ammunition including an AK rifle, were seized from the locker of a doctor at GMC Anantnag in Kashmir division.
