Man jumps into Chenab, washed away; search operation launched

Ramban, Jul 13: A young man hailing from Banihal allegedly jumped into river Chenab near old Jamia Masjid Ramban on late Sunday afternoon.

Police sources said information was received at Police Station Ramban from reliable sources that an unknown person had allegedly jumped into the river Chenab near Masjid Market, Ramban.

Acting swiftly on the information SHO Police Station Ramban, Inspector Vikram Parihar along with officers, officials, SDRF and Civil QRT personnel immediately rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. During the operation, no physical trace of the individual was found; however, a mobile phone was recovered from the place of occurrence.

Police upon verification, the individual was identified as Idrees Ahmed Butt (24), son of Abdul Hamid Butt, resident of Railway Chowk, Banihal. It is important to mention here that the water flow of the River Chenab is currently at a high and dangerous level.

SHO Police Station Ramban Inspector Vikram Parihar said that the search operation is going on to locate the man.
