Madhuri Dixit’s husband Dr Nene was saving lives ‘at the expense of my own’: ‘Madhuri would ask how I was, that was a sad thing’ | Bollywood News

Madhuri Dixit married Dr Shriram Nene in 1999, and moved to the US to be with him. Madhuri took a break from her acting career and joined Shriram as she tried to live an anonymous life in the US. Dr Nene, who was a practicing heart surgeon at the time, was pulling long hours at the hospital, and thus, he would never get enough time to take care of himself. In an earlier chat, Dr Nene said that sometimes, he was saving his patients’ lives at the cost of his own health.

In a chat shared on INKtalks’ YouTube channel, Dr Nene was asked about daily health practices and he spoke about his “previous avatar as a heart surgeon.” He said, “Habituation, rigourous discipline, focus, all of these things make a huge difference in what you do and honestly, in my previous avatar as a heart surgeon, it wasn’t really possible most of the time because they were calling me to emergency at 3 am.”

Dr Nene said that he worked long and difficult hours, there was no time dedicated to taking care of his own health. “I’d save lives, my wife would ask ‘how are they doing?’ And I would be like ‘they did great’. She would ask ‘how are you doing?’ I would say ‘I saved another life at the expense of my own’. That was a sad thing but the point is you have to establish a routine,” he said.

You were working sleepless nights, and by the time you’d come home, you would be so tired, you wouldn’t even eat your dinner. You would just collapse.” Madhuri and Dr Nene have been married for 26 years and are parents to two sons – Arin and Ryan.
