Srinagar Jul 10: Joint Secretary Home Affairs (MHA) Lokhande Prashant, who is currently overseeing Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Affairs, undertook a high-level security review during his visit to the border district of Kathua on Thursday.
Accompanied by Special Director, Intelligence Bureau (IB), Mahesh Dixit, and other senior officials, Lokhande assessed the prevailing security situation, especially in view of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra and heightened vigilance along the International Border (IB).
The team conducted a detailed review of security arrangements at Kautha and later visited the Bobiya Border Outpost of Border Security Force, a sensitive stretch along the international boundary known for repeated infiltration attempts.
Lokhande was joined by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone, Inspector General BSF Jammu, and other senior officers from the police, paramilitary, and intelligence agencies.
During the visit, the officials received briefings on the multi-tiered security grid in place to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Amarnath Yatra.
Lokhande expressed satisfaction over the robust coordination between security agencies and the use of advanced surveillance systems including drones, night vision equipment, and motion sensors to guard sensitive pilgrimage and border areas.
He urged all security agencies not to lower their guard at any stage, emphasizing that threats from across the border remain persistent. “While the arrangements are commendable, the enemy continues to look for opportunities. There should be no room for complacency,” Lokhande was quoted as saying.
Lokhande also commended the Border Security Force (BSF) for its relentless efforts in safeguarding the international border, particularly for successfully foiling recent infiltration bids by terrorist elements.
“The BSF has displayed exemplary vigilance and quick response, preventing potential threats from materializing. Their dedication is truly commendable,” he was qouted as saying.
Both the senior MHA officials reiterated the importance of proactive intelligence gathering and enhanced coordination between central and state agencies to preempt security challenges.
