In a powerful statement at the 78th foundation anniversary of Panchjanya during the Bharat Ki Bat Ashtayam program, Union Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal, strongly criticized the Congress Party for its hypocritical stance on the Constitution and media freedom.
Meghwal, while addressing the gathering, noted that despite Congress’s claims of upholding the Constitution, the party itself was responsible for making the first amendment in 1951 to suppress freedom of expression. He pointed out that Congress has continuously altered the Constitution over the years, starting with Pandit Nehru’s actions in 1951. “It was Nehru who introduced the first amendment to curb freedom of speech. Congress has been manipulating the Constitution for years, and yet today, they talk about protecting it,” said Meghwal.
The minister further highlighted the discrepancies in Congress’s narrative, mentioning the 39th Constitutional Amendment, which denied citizens the right to challenge the elections of key leaders such as the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Speaker in court. “This was a blatant violation of the Constitution’s core principles,” Meghwal emphasized.
He also criticized Congress for extending the Lok Sabha’s duration from five to six years and changing the very preamble of the Constitution. “These are the same people who tampered with the Constitution, yet they are now trying to lecture us about its importance. It’s laughable,” he added.
Responding to questions regarding the accusation that the BJP controls the media, Meghwal vehemently denied the claim. “We do not control the media. The media is free to report as it wishes, and yet, the opposition continues to spread fake narratives,” he stated, referring to the ongoing misinformation campaign against the BJP.
He also spoke on the issue of Congress leaders visiting Mahu on January 26, citing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birthplace as a point of contention. Meghwal pointed out that when Congress was in power, they had shown little interest in Mahu, despite Ambedkar’s significance to the nation. “It was the BJP government under Sunderlal Patwa in Madhya Pradesh that constructed the memorial. The truth is now clear to the people, and the fake narrative being pushed by Congress is no longer gaining traction,” Meghwal asserted.
Meghwal reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to protecting the Constitution and countering the fake narratives spread by Congress, urging the public to see through these efforts. “The people are now aware of the truth, and these false narratives are losing their hold,” he concluded.
