Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office Collection Day 9: Despite the controversies that arose during the production of Kantara Chapter 1, the film is having a strong run at the box office ever since its release, and with no competition in sight this week, it looks like the Rishab Shetty film will stay strong for another week. The film has already made over Rs 503 crore worldwide, and after its ninth day in theatres, the domestic collection currently stands at approximately Rs 360 crore.
On its ninth day in theatres, Kantara Chapter 1 roughly made Rs 22 crore, with Rs 7.75 crore in Kannada, Rs 7 crore in Hindi, Rs 2.5 crore in Tamil, Rs 3.25 crore in Telugu, and around Rs 1.85 crore in Malayalam. The film currently has over 7300 shows across the country with Hindi having the biggest piece of the pie at 3700 shows, followed by around 1300 shows in Kannada.
Indian cinema hasn’t witnessed many big hits this year. Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava, which was one of the biggest hits of the year, made Rs 600 crore in India, and collected over Rs 800 crore worldwide. Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s Saiyaara, which was the biggest surprise hit of the year, made around Rs 330 crore in India, and collected around Rs 570 crore worldwide. Rajinikanth’s Coolie earned around Rs 285 crore in India, and made around Rs 518 crore worldwide. Mahavatar Narsimha, which also surprised everyone with its success, made Rs 250 crore in the domestic market, and earned around Rs 326 crore worldwide. The makers of Kantara Chapter 1 released the film nationwide, as opposed to the first film, which gained traction only after it recieved significant success locally.
The occupancy rates of the film stayed strong throughout the day and peaked during the night shows. The rates averaged out at 42.58%, with the morning and afternoon shows filling up 14.87% and 35.61% of the seats, respectively. Evening shows saw a rise and achieved the rate of 52.05%, while the night shows had 67.77% of the seats filled. Having already beaten its predecessor’s lifetime collection (Rs 407 crore), Kantara Chapter 1 has the field wide open as there are no significant releases until Diwali.
Directed by Rishab Shetty himself, the cast of the film also includes Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah.
