J&K assembly adjourned for the day amid uproar over Waqf bill

Jammu, April 07: Amid continued uproar and religious sloganeering from both sides, the J&K Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day over the contentious Waqf Amendment Bill.

During the chaos, a clash broke out between a few members of the treasury benches and BJP MLAs after Congress’ Irfan Lone approached the BJP benches carrying a black band and a paper with slogans written on it.

BJP MLAs Arvind Gupta, Satish Sharma, and Vikram Randhawa protested and attempted to snatch the paper and the band, which led to a scuffle. Other members intervened to restore calm.

Several ruling alliance members, along with PDP and Independent legislators, tried to storm the Well of the House while tearing and tossing papers. Some even reached the reporters’ table.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary intervened, requesting the Chair to allow members to speak. The Speaker assured them they would be given a chance if order was restored.

However, as the disorder continued, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
