Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains open for traffic

Srinagar, March 13: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is open for traffic from both sides for passenger vehicles today, while the Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) are allowed only from Srinagar towards Jammu.

According to the Traffic Police, passenger vehicles are plying from both sides on the highway, while the HMVs have only been allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu.

The police have advised the commuters to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking to prevent road congestion. The Traffic Police further urged passengers to travel on the highway during the daytime and avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal in view of the risk of landslides and shooting stones on the route.

Meanwhile the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari ( SSG) road, Bhaderwah-Chamba road, Mughal road and Sinthan road remained closed for traffic.

On Wednesday, the Traffic Police in an advisory said that subject to fair weather and better road conditions Light Motor Vehicles ( LMVs) shall be allowed to ply from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. The police said that HMVs would be allowed from Navyug tunnel (Qazigund side) towards Jammu after assessing the road conditions.

“Security forces are advised not to ply against advisory in view of possible traffic congestion because of the narrow carriageway between Nashree and Banihal on Jammu-Srinagar NHW,” the Traffic Police added.
