David Corenswet’s Man of Steel will return soon! Director and DC Films chief James Gunn on Wednesday (September 3) announced that the sequel to his widely acclaimed Supermanis titled Man of Tomorrow. The film, which will see Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult return as Superman and his arch nemesis Lex Luthor, will release in theatres in June 2027.

Gunn shared a comic book snap of Superman and Luthor on his social media handles to announce the news.

Notably, Man of Tomorrow will come just a year after the release of the Superman follow-up, Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock as the titular superhero. Alcock’s Supergirl, interestingly, made quite an entrance towards the end of Gunn’s film, revealing herself to be the real owner of the fan-favourite canine, Krypto.

Fans will have another reason to rejoice; the Superman sequel will debut before Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part 11, which is set to release on October 1, 2027.

Released on July 11, 2025, Superman opened to largely positive reviews. The Hindu review of the movie said, “With thrilling action, wild science (give me a pocket universe to disappear into), eye-popping sets, humour and heart, DCU’s Superman is everything you would ask of a holiday movie.”

According to Variety’s report from August 25, Superman has earned more than $595 million at the global box office.
