InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., the operator of India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has been hit with penalty orders amounting to ₹2.76 crore by Customs authorities in Ahmedabad and Chennai, the company disclosed in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Tuesday.
The Principal Commissioner of Customs in Ahmedabad imposed a penalty of ₹2.2 crore, while the Meenambakkam Customs Commissioner in Chennai levied an additional ₹56.2 lakh. Both penalties relate to confirmed demands for customs duty, although the specific nature of the alleged violations has not been detailed in the disclosure.
In its statement to the BSE and NSE under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, IndiGo stated that it believes it has “correctly deposited the duty” and will be filing appeals before the appropriate appellate authorities.
The airline emphasized that there is no material impact on its financials, operations, or other business activities stemming from these actions.
