IAF chopper pulls off daring Ravi River rescue with one-wheel hover

Rajouri, Aug 31: An Indian Air Force Mi-17 1V helicopter executed a rare one-wheel hover to rescue stranded National Disaster Response Force personnel from a broken barrage over the Ravi River near Madhopur, Punjab, amid steep slopes and turbulent weather on Saturday.

The mission was launched to assist National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel who were stranded on a broken barrage amid challenging conditions.

In an official statement, the Indian Air Force has informed that while braving steep slopes and turbulent weather, the IAF crew executed a rare one-wheel hover to enable safe insertion and extraction of NDRF personnel along with a Garud.

These people were stuck in floodwater at Madhopur.

Officials said the operation demanded utmost precision, as even the slightest error could have risked lives.

However, the IAF crew completed the task flawlessly, drawing praise for their exceptional professionalism and bravery, they said.
