Heavy rain dampens Durga Puja spirit in Tripura; IMD forecasts light to moderate showers | India News

Incessant rain has disrupted Durga Puja celebrations in Tripura, especially in South Tripura and parts of Gomati district, even though there are no reports of casualties or damage to properties. Reports of Puja pandals falling apart in heavy rain and waterlogging in places such as Rangapania and Charilam in Sepahijala district kept coming throughout Wednesday.

As per the State Emergency Operation Centre, Belonia in South Tripura district was affected by heavy rain, and the main road at East Sarasima Tipra Bazar was blocked after a big tree fell on the road. The road was later cleared with the help of volunteers.

The water level in the Muhuri river in Belonia was 12.80 m, below the expected flood level, at 1 pm. The water level in the Gomati in Sonamura of Sepahijala district was 09.15 m at 12 pm, at Amarpur (Rangamati bridge) it was 28.44 m at 3.30 pm, and at Udaipur (Subhash bridge), it was 19.20 m, which was also below the expected flood level, at 10.30 am. The water level in the Haora river at Agartala was 7.00 m, below the expected flood level, at 10.40 am.

Bagafa in South Tripura district received 176.4 mm of rainfall, the highest in the state, followed by Belonia (120.6 mm), Gandacherra (106.6 mm) in Dhalai district, Amarpur (90.1 mm) in Gomati district, and Teliamura (88.6 mm) in Khowai district. Agartala received 6.4 mm of rainfall, while Nagicherra and Bodhjungnagar in West Tripura district received 24.5 mm and 9.5 mm of rainfall, respectively.

According to the India Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is likely at most places of the state in the next 24 hours. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) at one or two places in South Tripura district and heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) with thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places in the other districts.
