As part of the recent health sector expansion initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Skye Air will be facilitating drone-enabled healthcare logistics at five of the eleven AIIMS facilities designated under the PMJAY scheme, namely Jodhpur, Patna, Deoghar, Manipur, and Mangalagiri.
The initiative underscores the transformative impact of drone technology in providing timely and efficient healthcare services, especially in remote and underserved regions.
The government’s expanded Ayushman Bharat initiative, which was recently launched with projects amounting to over ₹12,850 crore, aims to make healthcare services more accessible and robust nationwide. Skye Air’s involvement plays a crucial role in this ambitious healthcare upliftment, supporting seamless medical logistics at multiple AIIMS facilities.
Ankit Kumar, CEO of Skye Air, welcomed this integration of advanced technology with public healthcare, stating, “With the expansion of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, healthcare services are reaching new heights as drone technology becomes an integral part of healthcare delivery in India. Skye Air is spearheading drone-enabled healthcare logistics at five prominent AIIMS facilities, including Jodhpur, Patna, Deoghar, Manipur, and Mangalagiri, out of the 11 AIIMS drone projects launched recently.”
“This initiative is a significant step forward in bridging healthcare gaps, especially in underserved areas. Highlighting these efforts, Skye Air demonstrates how drone technology ensures timely access to medical supplies, lifesaving medicines, and essential healthcare services for millions of Indians under the PMJAY scheme,” he added.
This project addresses one of the core issues in healthcare logistics: accessibility. Many regions across India struggle to receive timely delivery of essential healthcare items due to difficult terrains or lack of infrastructure.
Drone technology offers an innovative solution to these logistical challenges, ensuring rapid transportation of medicines, medical equipment, and even emergency supplies directly to the doorstep of healthcare facilities. By reducing transit times, Skye Air’s drone-enabled logistics enhance the quality and timeliness of patient care.
As part of this collaboration, Skye Air deployed its StarLiner and Artemis drone models, equipped with temperature-controlled boxes, to transport medical supplies efficiently. The drones are designed to carry a substantial load, showcasing their capability to address the unique logistical challenges of the healthcare sector.
The adoption of drone technology aligns closely with the PMJAY’s mission to improve healthcare equity by making essential medical resources available to underserved and rural populations. As India scales up its healthcare infrastructure, incorporating advanced technology like drones provides a resilient and sustainable logistics framework.
