HC directs MHA to clarify stance on prosecution sanction

Jammu, Feb 17: Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to clarify its stance vis-a-vis prosecution sanction of three Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers in the arms licence case.

The direction has been given by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice M A Chowdhary.

The court’s directive, as per a new agency quoting the petitioners’ counsel advocate S S Ahmed, came in response to a Public Interest Litigation, filed by Sheikh Muhammad Shafi and others against “delays in granting prosecution sanctions against eight IAS officers allegedly involved in the scam.”

As per agency report, the J&K Government had forwarded its prosecution sanction request to MHA on December 27, 2024.

Next hearing of the case is March 20, 2025.

Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was accorded prosecution sanction against senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and Secretary Revenue, Kumar Rajeev Ranjan in this case in December end last year by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India.
