New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers for the Rabi season 2025–26 (October 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026), ensuring continued support to farmers through subsidised fertiliser prices.
Briefing the media, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the government has allocated a tentative budget of ₹37,952.29 crore for the upcoming Rabi season which is about ₹736 crore higher than the allocation for the Kharif season 2025.
Under the approved rates, the subsidy per kilogram has been fixed at ₹43.02 for nitrogen, ₹47.96 for phosphorus, ₹2.38 for potash, and ₹2.87 for sulphur. These rates will apply from October 1, 2025, the start of the Rabi season.
The NBS scheme covers P&K fertilisers such as Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and complex grades like NPKS (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potash, Sulphur). Subsidy rates are determined based on nutrient content to ensure that farmers receive fertilisers at affordable prices.
According to the government, the decision aims to ensure availability of fertilisers at subsidised, affordable, and reasonable prices to farmers while rationalising subsidy outgo in line with fluctuations in international raw material and input prices.
