Kathryn Ruemmler, Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of Goldman Sachs, has received a three-year high compensation of approximately $17.6 million. The majority of her compensation comprises a stock award of $8.3 million and a bonus of $7.5 million, according to the company’s proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on March 14.
In 2024, She has served as a trusted advisor to firm leadership across a broad range of legal, reputational and regulatory matters with an exemplary track record of strong judgment and wise counsel. “She also fostered a spirit of strong collaboration and a focus on synergies across the Legal, Compliance, Regulatory Relations and Conflicts Resolution functions,” said the proxy statement.
The performance highlights outline her output in three broad category such as: strategic priorities & clients, risk management, and people.
One of the major highlights is that she has maintained focus and leadership on the firm’s litigation strategy, bringing a number of important matters to resolution in 2024. “Further enhanced the firm’s engagement model with key regulators with a more centralized approach, including through the development of the Office of Regulatory Relations,” the statement added.
As CLO and General Counsel, she has led the firm’s Legal division, provided oversight for the firm’s legal affairs worldwide, and overseen the Compliance division, Office of Regulatory Relations, and Conflicts Resolution Group.
She joined Goldman Sachs in 2020 as a Partner. Prior to joining the firm, she was a Litigation Partner at Latham & Watkins LLP where she was Global Chair of the White Collar Defense and Investigations practice.
She has also served as counsel to President Barack H. Obama and was his longest-serving White House Counsel.
