Continuous rains in Kulgam have damaged a vital bridge at Nawa-Bonigam which connected dozens villages in the area of Devsar, Kulgam.
The bridge’s collapse has caused severe inconvenience to the villagers, who now have to take longer routes to access their respective headquarters. The situation is particularly dire for those who require immediate medical attention or have other emergency requirements.
According to local residents, the bridge was constructed, over a decades ago. The incident has resulted dozens villages becoming disconnected from their respective headquarters.
Authorities have promptly responded to the situation and have halted traffic movement over the bridge, urging people to take precautions while walking on it.
Meanwhile, residents of the affected villages have expressed their concern and apprehension about the impact of the bridge’s collapse on their daily lives. They have appealed to the government to take immediate measures to restore the bridge’s functionality and ensure the safety of the residents.
Meanwhile, an official said that 140 individuals in different areas were rescued by the quick response teams constituted by District Administration Kulgam so far.
These include 18 at Vaishav Aad Kulgam, 12 near Laisoo Bridge, 43 near Zangalpora Aad, 50 in Devsar Tehsil, 12 at Qaimoh Vaishav Riverbed, 05 at Sonman Riverbed near Tengjen.
