Fighting for basic right, identity of J&K’s people: Karra

Jammu, Aug 11: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Monday continued its chain hunger strike and dharna for restoration of statehood outside the party office at Shaheedi Chowk Jammu. The hunger strike was led by the Udhampur Congress Committee and it was joined by JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra; working president Raman Bhalla; former minister Mula Ram; chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, ex legislators Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan; Hari Singh Chib, Kanta Bhan, Namrata Sharma and other senior leaders.

Later, addressing the gathering and talking to media persons, Karra lauded the Congress cadres in both regions of Jammu and Kashmir for coming to their respective headquarters for continuing the hunger strike every day till further instructions.

He said that the Congress party was determined to fight for restoration of statehood which was the basic right and identity and status of each of the 1.40 Cr citizens of J&K.

“We are not demanding anything except what was promised to us by the Modi government, time to time during the last six years. It is already overdue and is being denied arbitrarily and undemocratically,” he alleged.

Karra said Congress had no option but to fight for the basic rights and identity of people of J&K and it was the party’s moral and political duty to fight for the people.

Raman Bhalla lashed out at the central government for, what he alleged, “the betrayal of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for the past six years.”
