Ramban, Jul 20: Family members of Ranjit Singh, a resident of village Chakka Kundi, Tehsil Rajgarh of district Ramban, have submitted a representation to the Government of India through Deputy Commissioner Ramban, to seek help for his release from abductors in West Africa’s Niger.
Singh has been working as Senior Safety officer with a private company in Niger. Since July 15, his family has not been able to contact him, who later came to know of his abduction. “Through the persons known to the family, there in Nieger, we have come to know that recently the company has faced a terrorist attack and Ranjeet has been abducted by terrorists,” said Singh’s wife Sheela Devi.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad, Alyas Khan assured Sheela Devi and his family the matter was brought into the notice of Government and Divisional commissioner Jammu.
Sheela Devi said since 15 July, she had no contact with her husband and is worried about his well-being. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also sought the intervention of the central government and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), to ensure the safe release of the Ramban abducted.
Singh has been working on a transmission line in Niger. Through the persons known to the family, there in Niger, we have come to know that recently the company has faced a terrorist attack and Ranjeet has been abducted by terrorists, said Sheela Devi.
Singh’s wife Sheela Devi, while speaking to media persons after presenting a representation to the Deputy Commissioner Ramban, on Saturday evening said, “My husband Ranjeet Singh has been working as Senior Safety officer with a private company in Niger. He is working on a transmission line there. However, since July 15, I have not been able to contact him. Through the persons known to the family, there in Niger, we have come to know that recently the company has faced a terrorist attack and my husband has been abducted by terrorists,” She lamented that the company concerned did not bother to inform her about the status of her husband. It was only after repeated communication with the officers of the company that they revealed about the abduction of my husband. However, the company seemed to be doing nothing to procure his (Ranjeet’s) safe release, she alleged.
MLA Banihal Haji Sajaad Shaheen, MLA Ramban Arjun Singh Raju, District president BJP Ramban Neelam Langeh have requested the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Dr, SJ Shankar regarding safety and rescue of Ranjeet Singh. Meanwhile, senior citizens of Ramban district have also sought the intervention of the central government and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ensure his safe release.
