‘Extra security in Pir Panjal region’

Rajouri, May 24: The authorities Friday said that extra security cover had been put in place across the Pir Panjal region keeping in view the terror incidents in the last three years and a large number of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) had been inducted for the election duty.

More than 160 companies of CAPF have been deployed in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch for the smooth conduct of Lok Sabha polls, the authorities said.

They said that along with CAPF personnel, a large number of personnel from J&K Police from other districts, India Reserve Police Force personnel, and Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police personnel were also inducted in Rajouri and Poonch districts for the smooth conduct of polls.

“Some terror incidents have taken place across Rajouri and Poonch districts in the last two years due to which we have placed extra security cover,” Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajouri, Om Parkash Bhagat, who is also the District Election Officer (DEO), said.

He said that more than 92 companies of CAPF were deployed in Rajouri district and all possible stringent security arrangements had been made.
