Education takes a hit due to waterlogging, dilapidated roads leading upto Bandipora Polytechnic College

Bandipora, Mar 13: The education of students at the Government Polytechnic College in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district has been hampered due to dilapidated roads and waterlogging.

In addition to bad roads, waterlogging and poor condition of the ground was affecting the movement of both students and  staff.

Students claim no concrete action has been taken despite the matter being raised repeatedly with the concerned authorities.

“Whenever it rains, it becomes impossible to reach the college due to terrible road conditions. At times, we are unable to attend classes in different blocks due to rain,” a student said.

Both students and staff said bad roads and water accumulation in the college have been a “regular issue” that needs to be addressed on priority.

“Not only is the college ground in poor condition, but the road leading to our college is in bad shape. It becomes nearly impossible to walk when it rains,” another student, Muzamil Parvez, told Greater Kashmir.

A staffer said that waterlogging has “somewhat” been addressed after the block office initiated works to level the ground surface this year. But drains are still incomplete, the official added.

The problem has worsened due to the unauthorised use of the college ground and road by vehicles involved in illegal riverbed mining near Wular Lake, officials said.

“The college ground is not fenced, and anyone who wishes to use it for any purpose feels free to do so,” said another college official. “The situation deteriorates further as trucks and tractors involved in illegal sand extraction use the college ground as an approach road,” the official added.

Students have urged the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to resolve the issue so that their studies are not affected.
